Ever found yourself in a seemingly impossible situation, where there’s no way out? Picture this: you’re a young American and you meet and fall in love with someone who has been living illegally in the country. Let’s say this person is a Mexican.

We all know about the current U.S. President’s stand on the issue of illegal and undocumented immigrants, and the wall he has been pushing to keep them out. Added to this, over the past year we have seen a lot of these unfortunate souls being caught and deported, but not before being subject to inhuman treatments and being separated from their kids who were born here.

Now, let’s get back to your story, shall we? So, you met and fell in love with the Mexican and after some time you two decided to get married and have kids. Things are going great for you and your family… that is until disaster strikes!

Suddenly, you’re struck by heart disease, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has your husband in custody for quite some time now. It seems like all hope is lost. What do you do?

This might seem like a fabricated story, but it has happened to someone… well, maybe it has happened to many others. But one individual decided to write about her experience to motivate those in similar situations.

There’s something about this captivating story that made me identify with the characters and learn to show compassion to those facing adversity. I read it and was confronted by issues of family, love, and inner strength through the evolving relationship of the novel’s main characters.

It tells of Grace, a girl with a painful history, who falls in love with Miguel. He is an undocumented immigrant who travels to the United States to support his mother and seven siblings after a lifetime of abuse at the hands of his father.

Despite the many challenges they face, Grace believes that Miguel’s presence in her life is nothing short of a miracle. But after living for each other for so long, they are forced to confront the possibility of spending life alone.

As I read this beautiful story it struck chords in me and woke me up emotionally. I must admit, it’s a true page-turner, as I didn’t want to stop reading until the many questions in my head were answered. Do they eventually overcome these obstacles? How would I feel if I were in Grace or Miguel’s shoes?

After reading this novel, I was encouraged to navigate the complexities of my day-to-day life, while never losing sight of my dreams.

You should definitely give this “testament to the power of perseverance” a read and be encouraged to overcome your own challenges!
